Why the Francophone Gender Equality Award?

The Francophone Gender Equality Award highlights the extraordinary commitment and achievements of women activists who are advancing the rights of women, young women and girls and gender equality in different Francophone countries.

Through this award, XOESE would like to recognize the considerable efforts of these heroines, often in the shadows, and increase the visibility of their exceptional achievements.

Since its inception, 2 editions have been launched and have crowned 6 magnificent Francophone activists for their actions in advancing the rights of women, young women and girls and gender equality in different Francophone countries.

How does the selection process work?

XOESE is calling for applications and invites all persons to submit an application according to the established Qualification Criteria requesting that the candidate should (i) work for or volunteer with a civil society organization; (ii) achievements must have taken place in one or more of the targeted Francophone countries of the Global South and (iii) have initiated and/or contributed to project(s), advocacy activity(ies), etc. that have had a significant impact and have been implemented in the region. (iii) have initiated and/or contributed to project(s), advocacy activity(ies), etc., that have had a significant impact and have been able to bring about positive behavioral changes with respect to the rights of women, young women, girls and/or LGBTQI+ people.

Awards

  • Official recognition by a Feminist Fund, which will increase their visibility and that of their organizations within the women’s rights and gender equality movement.
  • An envelope of $2,000 for the first laureate, $1,500 for the second laureate and $1,000 for the third laureate.
  • Receipt of a symbolic trophy to honor their commitment to the cause of women’s rights during an official award ceremony.

We have just launched the 3rd edition of the Francophone Prize for Gender Equality to honor women activists from Francophone countries in the Global South who have been able to bring about lasting positive change for the betterment of the lives of women, young women and girls and LGBTQI+ people in their communities.
